Chibi of Hateruma

pencil and watercolor
2008

Small painting kozy made while we were on the tiny island of Hateruma, the Southernmost inhabited point in Japan. It is only 5 km across and has a population of around 600 people (and faaaar more goats). Chibi was a very friendly billy goat that hung out around one of the few community food marts on the island (which has no convenience stores or vending machines) trying to test his fighting prowess, constantly ramming himself into the local folk and tourists alike, thus his owners put lengths of garden hoses on his horns to keep him from hurting people.
