This Is Where We Stopped Trying To Make Sense Of It All
20 x 16 inches
acrylic and ink on board
Inspired by our trip to the desert parks of Utah earlier this month, Dan did a sketch of a sandstone arch that resembled two lovers embracing. I liked the sketch and ran with it to make this painting. The whole time we were in Utah we couldn't believe how unreal the scenery of the Colorado Plateau was. We kept thinking that Moebius must have been inspired by these places, so this painting is definitely a bit of an homage to the French bandes dessinées master as well as to the mind bending grandeur of this desert landscape. If you ever have the chance to go to Utah - DO IT!
We sent this painting off to Detroit for the LAX/DTW exhibition being curated by Thinkspace Gallery. The exhibition, featuring over 80 artists, is being held at Innerstate Gallery and runs June 6th through July 4th, 2015.

As Californians, kozy and I were honored to be given the Kelp Forest habitat as part of PangeaSeed's "HOME" print suite, which seeks to bring attention to various threatened marine habitats around the world. As divers who spent a good amount of time floating happily through these radiant forests that can be bursting with life, it is a pleasure for us to depict this ecosystem with kozy's painting. Its an ecosystem that only exists along the pacific coastline of the Americas, and along California in particular - where it comes into heavy contact with human activity. Over the last several hundred years the kelp forests, which practically lined the entire coast of California have dwindled down to mere pockets because of human hunting. It began with fur traders hunting sea otters nearly to extinction by the early 1800's, not knowing that sea otters kept the sea urchin population at bay. The explosion of sea urchins (who like to feed on the holdfasts of giant kelp) caused a massive decline of the forests, which were the main protective environment a majority of species along this coast. Visit the link to find out more about how you can help protect this ecosystem!

New mural debuted at the Oakland Museum of California
We created a new mural experience for the exhibition "SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot" which opened April 19, 2014 at the Oakland Museum of California.
The piece is called "An Ode To California" and is 17 feet tall and 36 feet wide, and also covers the floor between the 3 walls. (Posters and prints available in our web shop) It is basically an emphatic, trippy appreciation of the grandeur of California - its geography and wildlife, and the inspiration they conjure.
The exhibition, which explores the presents new or recent works by California and international-based artists affiliated with Giant Robot, the influential magazine that brought Asian, trans-Pacific popular culture to mainstream audiences in the United States. Artworks in the exhibition represent a range of mediums, including mural art, sculpture, illustration, portraiture, large-scale installations, graphic novels, photography, and more. Featured artists include Rob Sato, Ako Castueara, James Jean, Amy Sol, Sean Chao, Deth P. Sun, Luke Cheuh, David Cho and more.

It’s been years since artist duo kozyndan has exhibited in their home city of Los Angeles. In fact, it was more than a decade ago since their first exhibition at the Giant Robot store which then prompted the opening of GiantRobot. We’ll be seeing a new range of work, from their paintings to their newer craft of sculpture. Their influence from their worldly travels will continue and they’ll also have a special guest artist and collaborator, Leah Chun who’s works are driven by popular culture. End of Summer Never Ends will continue the legacy of the artist duo.
